Derek Chapman from Stoke valley weather station has written a spreadsheet that will help with calculating the new Rail fall in mm or assist in recalibrating your rain gauge when you increase the collection area.

You can modify your rain gauge, so it will pick up fine rain in the case of the Oregon Weather station, the rain gauge as a tipping  value of 1 mm

This can take some time to register the rain it is very easy to modify your rain gauge sensor

1/ 200 mm  plastic funnel,
2/ Silicon sealant recommend (no nails plus Silicon)
3/ Mini hacksaw
4/ Stanley knife

Cut the funnel  so it fits
into the rain gauge
When you have a snug fit, seal the funnel  with some sealant

Calculate your new tipping value and enter the New value into weather display software

When you open Weather Display software you will
see a toolbar at the top, click on Control Panel this 
will open up a new window

you then need to click on the offsets
& initial Rain this will bring you into
a new window which offers offsets
to various instruments

the one you're concerned with is labelled Rain Offset click on this tab and enter your new rain gauge tipping
for a 200 mm funnel your new tipping would be 0.25
